(George Washington's Birthday) is a United States of America federal holiday celebrated on the third Monday of February in honor of our first president.
This federal holiday honors Washington’s accomplishments and leadership in the founding of our great
republic.
From a military standpoint, the holiday is a tribute to Washington for the creation of the first military badge of merit for common soldiers,
the Purple Heart medal awarded to soldiers who are injured in battle. So, along with Memorial Day and Veterans Day,
this holiday offers an opportunity to honor our country's veterans.
